Alpine oasis: From Nufenen to San Bernardino

From Nufenen, the trail first crosses the A13 and the Hinterrhein before heading towards Curciusa via Waldgüeter and Schwarzwald on the right flank of the valley high above the Areua stream.


From the Areua-Alp (also known as Alp de Rog), the tour takes a right-hand turn. Although partly pathless, the steep slope is well marked and leads in a zigzag course to the majestic Strec de Vignun/Vignone Pass. You follow the picturesque course of the Ri de Fontanalba stream and hike through a breathtaking high valley to the Cassina de Vignun, a farmed alpine pasture that invites you to take a break.


The descent begins through the Bosch di Sciuch valley before finally arriving in the village of San Bernardino. There you have the option of taking the PostBus either towards Bellinzona or back to Chur, depending on where your next adventure takes you.


This is an unforgettable tour that will delight nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. The route is well signposted, but we recommend sturdy footwear and sufficient provisions.
